‘Where and when’ details of the TeenIdol open auditions can be found in the Audition for a place
page of the Training section. In order to be able to give your best you
should prepare for the audition as if it were a Stage Performance.
Check out the Prepare to Perform to get some useful tips to help you. Use the following links to jump straight to the section you need: Our Code of Conduct Some fundamental points The day of the Audition Our Code of Conduct The
TeenIdol auditions are like no other professional auditions. We treat
everyone with respect, all our panellists are well qualified to listen
to you, even our admin staff are musicians so they will empathise with
you. You will not be kept waiting for hours once the doors open – and
there should be room for everyone to have somewhere to sit. You will
NEVER be humiliated or asked to do anything unreasonable. No video
footage or photographs will be permitted other than official
photographers … and even they are not permitted to photograph/film your
audition without YOUR permission.
If you have never auditioned
before – this is a great opportunity to gain some valuable experience
in a benevolent environment without having to travel to London or
Manchester. Back to top Some fundamental points 1.
The audition organisers want you to give your best ever performance.
They actually want you to do well. (They are not your enemies!) 2. They want to see and hear who YOU really are. Don’t try and be someone else. You are probably far more interesting! 3.
Use the auditions for your own benefit. The panellists and other staff
have a great deal of knowledge and experience … use that knowledge by
asking them questions and any advice you can get from them. 4. There
will be other musicians at the audition. Find out who they are, where
they are from, what sort of music do they like. Make sure you take pen
& paper to write down contact details of anyone you would like to
meet up with after the audition. If you are looking to put together a
band or a duo (or just want somebody to sing with for fun) … THIS is
the place where you will find them … conveniently gathered all in one
place at the same time … but for ONE DAY ONLY! 5. Look upon the
audition as a positive event. It has given you the chance to practice,
prepare and perform – get some expert feedback on your progress, meet
other musicians and maybe find other opportunities. 6. The next
audition you attend after this one will be much easier – and you will
be better prepared. Attending auditions is like learning how to make
pancakes … you sometimes burn one or two before you get it right. 7.
If this is your first audition – enjoy it! However it turns out, you
never forget your first time. We can guarantee that you will not be the
only first-timer. There are some great tips in our other pages in this section: Your Health Your Voice Prepare to Perform Check
them out – even if you don’t intend to audition. The Prepare to Perform
page has some great tips which you will also find useful if you are
preparing for a sporting event, interview, or an important exam. Back to top The day of the Audition By
this time you will have made all your important preparations and
hopefully picked up a few useful tips from our other pages in this
section of the TeenIdol website. There are a few other last minute
extra things that will help.
1. Avoid dairy products – they create extra mucus and can leave you feeling a bit ‘bunged up’ in your throat and sinuses. 2.
Give yourself plenty of time to get up, get ready and get to the
audition so you arrive feeling prepared and fresh … not frustrated and
flustered. 3. Make sure you dress for the weather – you may have to queue outdoors for a short while. 4. Make sure you take your own bottle of water. 5.
There are some great herbal remedies that can really help. ‘Rescue
Remedy” is great for those last minute nerves. Oil of Lavender is very
relaxing … a few drops on a tissue or hanky is a good aromatherapy. Oil
of Rosemary is great for clearing your head … either in a morning bath,
on a tissue or a tiny drop smeared with a finger across your forehead.
[WARNING: Should not be used by pregnant women – and always check using
a small spot on the back of your hand first – as you may have an
allergy.] 6. Come with a positive attitude that you will perform
well and enjoy the whole experience. If you meet someone new – why not
meet up after the audition in a nearby café? 7. Don’t forget your
audition form and 2 passport photographs. We can fill out a new one for
you if you have lost yours or were not able to download one … but you
get through faster if you have your own form. (These will be available
from the website at the end of this half term break.) Back to top
